Furman defeats Western Carolina 32-20
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Ray Early kicked six field goals to help Furman defeat Western Carolina 32-20 on Saturday night.
Early hit from 48 yards -- his longest of the day -- on the opening Furman drive and would kick three more for a 12-0 lead that held until midway through the second quarter.
Quarterback Reese Hannon threw 17 of 31 for 144 yards. Richard Hayes led the ground game for the Paladins (6-5, 5-2 Southern) with 144 yards on 12 carries.
The Catamounts (2-9, 1-6) scored in the second quarter on a 1-yard Darius Ramsey rush to put the halftime score at 12-7.
The Paladins came out of the break to score another two TDs in the third, a 3-yard rush by Ernie Cain and a 60-yard run by Hayes, to put the game out of reach of the Catamounts.
Two more Early field goals in the fourth sealed the Furman win.
