Samford runs past Appalachian State 34-10
BOONE, N.C. -- Andy Summerlin threw for 265 yards and one touchdown to lead Samford to a 34-10 Southern Conference victory over Appalachian State Saturday.
This was Samford's first win against the Mountaineers since 1970.
The Bulldogs (5-2, 3-0 SOC) scored early when Michael Pierce Jr. rushed in from 1 yard out. Appalachian State (1-5, 1-2) narrowed the gap on a 38-yard field goal by Drew Stewart, also in the first quarter.
Samford then scored 20 unanswered points to jump out to a 27-3 lead early in the fourth quarter. Samford spread the scoring around as D'Morrise Bledsoe scored from 26 yards out, Summerlin threw a 7-yard strike to Kelvin Clay and Jeremiah Gates rushed in from the 1 in the fourth quarter for the final score. Warren Handraham added field goals of 30 and 27 yards.
Appalachian State's Kameron Bryant threw for 156 yards, including a late 15-yard touchdown to Andrew Peacock.
