NC A&T holds off Elon 23-10
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Dominique Drake scored on a 1-yard yard with 1:15 to play as North Carolina A&T held off Elon 23-10 Saturday night.
Nursing a six-point lead built on three Cody Jones field goals, the Aggies (2-0) went on a 13-play, 80-yard drive that chewed up 6:38 to clinch the win over the Phoenix (1-2).
Though NC A&T had the upper hand, including a 10-minute advantage in time of possession, Elon pulled within 16-10 when Mike Quinn hit Tracey Coppedge for a 41-yard score late in the third quarter. Quinn finished 25 of 46 for 295 yards.
The Aggies converted four third downs on the clinching drive, including passes of 27 and 16 yards from Lewis Kindle to Desmond Lawrence.
Kindle was 20 of 38 for 288 yards, including a 60-yard strike to Demonta Brown for the only TD in the first half as the Aggies built a 13-3 lead.
