NEW ORLEANS -- The Tulane defense shined in the season opener Thursday night, coming up with four pass interceptions and two fumble recoveries in a 34-7 rout over Jackson State in the season opener for both schools.
The Green Wave defense held the Tigers to just 112 yards rushing. Jackson State didn't score until the fourth quarter when Evan Ingram scored on a 9-yard draw play.
Tulane's Nick Montana passed for 144 yards and two touchdowns and Orleans Darkwa rushed for 50 yards and two TDs for the Green Wave.
Montana, the son of NFL quarterback Joe Montana, connected with Justyn Shackleford for a 14-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and another touchdown to Devon Breaux in the fourth.
Tulane had seven runners combine for 158 yards, led by Darkwa's 50 yards. Tommy Gooden led the Tigers with 57 yards rushing and LaMontez Ivy threw for 133 yards.
