ORONO, Maine -- Justin Thorpe posted 219 all-purpose yards and accounted for three touchdowns in James Madison's 31-7 win over Maine on Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association showdown.
Thorpe, who threw for 108 yards on 9 of 12 passes and rushed for 111 yards on 16 carries, gave James Madison a 10-0 lead on his 9-yard touchdown run and later helped the Dukes push that lead to 24-0 in the third quarter.
The Dukes (7-2, 5-1) went ahead 31-0 behind Thorpe's third TD of the day, this time an 8-yard run, with 7:30 left to play.
Maine (3-6, 2-4) returned a fumble 67 yards for a touchdown with 30 seconds left to create the final margin. The Black Bears, however, struggled on offense, managing just 104 total yards and seven first downs.
James Madison racked up 314 rushing yards, allowing the Dukes to hold possession for 37:27 compared to 22:33 for Maine.
