GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Jake Miller's 36-yard touchdown run with 10:01 remaining put North Dakota on top for good in a see-saw battle between two middle-of-the-road Big Sky teams Saturday in a 33-29 victory over Southern Utah.
Mitch Sutton's 5-yard touchdown run gave North Dakota(5-5, 3-4 Big Sky) its first lead of the day at 26-22 with 2:43 remaining in the third period. On the ensuing possession, Brad Sorenson found Henna Brown on a 15-yard touchdown strike for Southern Utah (4-6, 3-4) to cap an 11-play, 87-yard scoring drive to re-take a 29-26 lead at the 11:30 mark in the fourth quarter.
Sutton had 17 carries for 65 yards and two touchdowns, Braden Hanson completed 22 of 36 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown but the defense was below average, allowing the Thunderbirds to rack up 520 total yards of offense. Sorenson completed 19 of 29 passes for 363 and two touchdowns.
