Butler Bulldogs @ Davidson Wildcats
Butler 31, Davidson 20
DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Trae Heeter rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns -- one a 78-yarder -- to lead Butler over Davidson 31-20 Saturday in Pioneer Football League play.
Quarterback Matt Lancaster passed for 277 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (7-2, 6-0).
Davidson's Jonathan Carkhuff (31-for-48, 296 yards) threw his first of two scoring passes to Danny Martinez, a 13-yarder, to give Davidson (1-7, 1-4) a 7-3 first-quarter lead. Heeter answered with a 4-yard touchdown run, igniting Butler's 21-point second quarter.
Lancaster hit J.T. Mesch for a 32-yard touchdown before Heeter sped 78 yards to score. Carkhuff's second touchdown pass to Martinez -- a 46-yarder -- and Robert Schick's second field goal drew Davidson within 24-20 early in the fourth quarter. But Lancaster's 17-yard scoring pass to Marquese Martin-Hayes gave Butler a cushion.
Lanny Funsten, who had 17 receptions last week, caught 13 passes for 131 yards for the Wildcats.
