ITHACA, N.Y. -- Jeff Mathews threw for 525 yards and four touchdowns, and John Wells kicked a 23-yard field goal with 50 seconds left to lead Cornell to a 37-35 victory over Princeton on Saturday.
Cornell (4-3, 2-2 Ivy League) pulled ahead 34-28 on Silas Nocita's 2-yard run, but Wells missed the extra point attempt.
Quinn Epperly's touchdown pass gave the Tigers (4-3, 3-1) a 35-34 lead with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter. The Tigers were trying to run out the clock when Cornell's Brian Gee forced Dre Nelson's fumble, recovered by Tre' Minor.
Mathews hit Grant Gellatly (12 catches, 215 yards) for 35 yards to set up Wells' winning kick. Luke Tasker caught 10 passes for 201 and two TDs for Cornell.
Cornell amassed 566 yards to Princeton's 549, but the Tigers turned the ball over four times, two of which ended its final two drives in the fourth quarter.
