NORMAL, Ill. -- Kierra Harris and Ashton Glaser each ran for a touchdown, and the Missouri State defense recorded two safeties Saturday to shock Illinois State 24-17.
After Harris' 1-yard score, Nate Davis sacked Matt Brown, whose fumble bounced out of the ISU end zone to give the Bears (2-6, 2/3 Missouri Valley) a 9-0 lead. But Brown recovered to hit Tyrone Walker for TDs of 4 and 15 yards, and the Redbirds (6-2, 3-2) took a 14-9 lead into the fourth.
Austin Witmer's 20-yard field goal and Glaser's 2-yard run put Missouri State up 19-14. The Bears added two more points when Howard Scarborough tackled Darrelynn Dunn in the end zone, and another Witmer field goal made it 24-14.
Nick Aussieker's 47-yard field goal pulled ISU within seven with 10 seconds left, but the Redbirds couldn't recover the ensuing onside kick. ISU had been trying for its first 7-1 start since 1967.
