Elon 48, W. Virginia St. 14
ELON, N.C. -- Backed by four TD passes from Thomas Wilson, Elon trumped West Virginia State 48-14 Saturday.
Wilson was 18-of-25 passing for 261 yards in the blowout, connecting with Aaron Melette on nine of those passes for 129 yards. Wilson hit Melette for a pair of TDs, both in the second quarter.
The Phoenix (2-1) leapt to a 35-0 lead in the second quarter, but couldn't keep the shutout through the half as West Virginia State's (1-2) LeFloyd Phillip ran in from 70 yards out with 41 seconds left in the second quarter.
The points didn't turn the tides, though. Elon's Thuc Phan ran the ball 15 times for 110 yards, primarily in the second half, while Karl Bostick ran the ball 12 times for 77 yards and a score.
The Yellow Jackets amassed just 251 yards total offense, including 74 on the ground.
