WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Kyle Frazier threw three touchdowns and passed for 264 yards to help Monmouth beat Rhode Island 41-6 on Saturday.
Frazier's first half touchdowns, one for eight yards to Kwabena Asante, and a 25-yard pass to Michael McLafferty led Monmouth (1-1) to a 24-3 halftime lead. Frazier completed 18-of-28 passes with no interceptions.
Rhode Island scored just three points in the second half of its season opener, as the Hawks' defense dominated.
Monmouth allowed less than 200 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers, two fumbles and an interception.
Monmouth's rushing attack was led by Julian Hayes' 59 yards on 12 carries and two scores. Pete Nagy added 83 yards on eight carries.
The loss marks Rhode Island's eighth straight road loss dating back to October 30, 2010.
Monmouth, meanwhile, snapped an eight-game home losing streak.
