COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tre Lamb led Tennessee Tech to a 41-31 victory against Hampton in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Tennessee Tech led 31-7 at the half, but Hampton struck back with 17 points in the third quarter. iJorrian Washington's 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and scored again after recovering a Tennessee Tech fumble on a punt at the 5-yard line to pull to within seven points.
Lamb engineered a 76-yard drive that ended in a 9-yard touchdown pass to Zack Zeigler, and Zach Sharp kicked a 25-yard field goal to push the margin to 17 points, 41-24, in the fourth quarter.
Tennessee Tech outgained Hampton 548 yards to 192 in total offense. Lamb was 24 of 34 for 339 yards and four touchdowns, and Adam Urbano rushed for 158 yards.
It was Tennessee Tech's first game against a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent.
