News: 1 day agoMahomes completed 19 of 33 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Seahawks. He added two rushing attempts for 14 yards.
Spin: Mahomes was picked off in the second quarter and remarkably recovered his own fumble in a pile of bodies to avoid a second turnover in the third quarter, setting up a Harrison Butker field goal on the next play for the Chiefs' only points of the night. This was the first start in Mahomes' career during which Kansas City failed to reach the red zone, and he hasn't thrown a touchdown pass in two games since KC's Week 5 bye. Seattle's defense dominated while Kansas City struggled to move the ball in the absence of No. 1 WR Rashee Rice (hamstring/knee), whom the Chiefs will hope to get back for a Week 8 road game against the Broncos.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Mahomes is a bit of a wild card as he embarks on his 10th season. The two-time NFL MVP followed up a pair of disappointing fantasy seasons (2023-24) with an elite start to 2025 (24.5 points per game during Weeks 1-8) and a disappointing finish that included 15.0 points per game during his final six games and a torn ACL in Week 15. Mahomes' efficiency has dipped the past three seasons, and while he made up ground as a rusher in 2025 (fifth among QBs in rushing yards and TDs despite three missed games), he might not be able to run as often this season as he recovers fully from the knee injury. Mahomes will be ready to play in Week 1, but he hasn't been a consistent fantasy QB1 since 2022. He's a risky mid-round flier in drafts.
