Georgia Bulldogs vs Texas Longhorns

Volchko's record 15 strikeouts lead Georgia past Texas
Georgia's Joey Volchko struck out 15 batters -- a school record for the Men's College World Series -- in a complete-game masterpiece to lead the Bulldogs to a 7-1 victory over Texas on Saturday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
Volchko was masterful for Georgia, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and a walk over nine innings. The Bulldogs' offense provided all the support he would need in a chaotic first inning, sparked by a two-run home run from Rylan Lujo, who finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Kenny Ishikawa added a pair of hits and two RBIs.
Texas gifted Georgia its early lead, committing two of its three errors in the bottom of the first. After Lujo's homer made it 2-0, a throwing error by catcher Carson Tinney on a strikeout allowed a runner to reach. Later in the frame, another throwing error by Tinney on a wild pitch allowed two more runs to score, capping a four-run inning for the Bulldogs.
The Longhorns struggled to generate any offense against Volchko, with Adrian Rodriguez (2-for-3) and Ethan Mendoza (2-for-3) accounting for all four of the team's hits. Texas scored its only run in the top of the fifth when Mendoza drove in Rodriguez with an RBI single following a throwing error by Volchko. Mendoza left the game in the eighth inning with an apparent injury after reaching on an infield single.
Texas starter Dylan Volantis settled in after the rocky start. He pitched 6⅓ innings, allowing seven runs -- only two of which were earned -- on four hits while striking out nine.
The Bulldogs added three runs in the seventh, highlighted by Lujo's RBI double and Ishikawa's two-run single, to put the game away.
