WBA champion Brandon Figueroa stripped of title, bout canceled

LAS VEGAS -- WBA featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa's first title defense against Tomoki Kameda on Saturday has been canceled, and Figueroa has been stripped of his title after he failed to make weight this week.

Figueroa (27-2, 20 KOs) missed the 126-pound championship weight by 1.4 pounds Friday. He did not attempt to reweigh and was officially stripped of his WBA title.

The bout, which was meant to co-headline a WBC super welterweight title fight between Sebastian Fundora and Ermal Hadribeaj at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan, was initially supposed to continue, but Figueroa withdrew Saturday morning.

Figueroa won the WBA title in a 12th-round knockout of Nick Ball in February in Liverpool.

A 10-round super middleweight bout between Armando Resendiz (16-3, 11 KOs) and Koen Maxoudier (16-4, 6 KOs) has been promoted to the new co-main event.
