Bucs' Donteea Dye and Devante Bond battling hamstring strains

TAMPA, Fla. -- By the looks of things, it appears the Tampa Bay Buccaneers escaped Friday's third preseason game against the Cleveland Browns without any major injuries, a positive sign because they're already pretty banged up.

Second-year wide receiver and kick returner Donteea Dye left the game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and did not return. The initial diagnosis is a hamstring strain, and early indications are that he did not tear anything, a source told ESPN. He will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Dye was in position to win the starting kick returner job with 80 yards on three kickoff returns heading into Friday's game.

Backup strongside linebacker Devante Bond, who would have started in place of injured linebacker Daryl Smith, was held out of the game due to a hamstring injury.

A source told ESPN that Bond suffered a hamstring strain Wednesday at practice. He underwent an MRI. He's expected to be back in about two weeks.

Several key players sat out Friday due to injuries, including Smith, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald, running back Mike James, wide receiver Evan Spencer (knee), right guard Ali Marpet (ankle) and tight end Luke Stocker.

Wide receiver Louis Murphy (knee) and J.R. Sweezy (back) are still on the active/PUP list. Per NFL rules, if they have not been medically cleared to participate by the end of the preseason, they'll be moved to the reserve/PUP list, which prevents them from practicing and playing for the first six weeks of the season.
