RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks were back at it for another training-camp practice Wednesday. Here is a rundown of observations:
10:04 a.m. PT -- For the first time since suffering a ruptured patellar tendon injury in November, tight end Jimmy Graham is back on the field practicing.
Graham's teammates are happy to see him back. He exchanges high-fives, fist pounds and chest bumps with the offensive linemen. During the stretching period, Pete Carroll and other coaches come over to check in on him.
10:25 a.m. PT -- With his back to the quarterback, Graham stands in place before making short-area cuts, turning around and catching passes from the quarterbacks. At one point, he makes a one-handed grab, drawing cheers from the crowd.
10:41 a.m. PT -- It's worth noting that nothing Graham did Wednesday required him to move at full speed. The Seahawks plan to ease him back slowly. Graham said after practice that he's talked to other guys who have had the injury, like Victor Cruz, and they've told him that rushing back can lead to other injuries. Most of what Graham did Wednesday was run routes and catch balls without defenders on the field.
10:56 a.m. PT -- Several veterans, including Michael Bennett, Bobby Wagner and Cliff Avril, have the day off. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin is back on the field, and running back Thomas Rawls is doing a little bit more than he did on Tuesday. But Graham, Rawls and Baldwin sit out team drills.
Some depth-chart notes: Frank Clark takes Bennett's spot at right defensive end. Cassius Marsh fills in for Avril. And Brock Coyle takes over for Wagner.
Right tackle J'Marcus Webb is on the sideline with his helmet off and his knee wrapped. Bradley Sowell takes his place. The defense shows several blitz looks, and Russell Wilson does a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly.
Trevone Boykin throws a beautiful pass down the seam, finding tight end Brandon Williams for a touchdown. Boykin has improved, and Williams seems to make at least one play every day.
In the first scuffle of Wednesday's session, defensive lineman Brandin Bryant and offensive tackle George Fant go at it after the whistle but then are separated. These guys seem more than ready to face a team with a different uniform.
11:16 a.m. PT -- During one-on-one pass-protection drills, Justin Britt handles Jarran Reed, and Marsh slips inside of Garry Gilliam.
During his next rep, Reed goes down with an injury. It looks like his left foot or ankle. Reed is carted off the field, but he Tweeted afterwards that he's fine and will be back Thursday.
11:32 a.m. PT -- Germain Ifedi and linebacker K.J. Wright mix it up after the whistle. As Ifedi goes back to the line of scrimmage, he and cornerback Richard Sherman bark at each other. Even back in the huddle, Ifedi is still pointing at Sherman and yelling. Sherman doesn't like that and goes right up to Ifedi in the huddle before things calm down.
The coaches pull Ifedi off the field and replace him with Jahri Evans at right guard. The rookie takes a knee behind the line of scrimmage before Baldwin and Carroll come up to him separately to chat about the dust-up.
The commitment from Ifedi and the offensive line to not back down has been a theme at camp. But as Carroll showed last week when he threw Bennett out of practice, there's a time to tone it down.
11:44 a.m. PT -- Another nice play from Boykin. He rolls out to his left and finds wide receiver Montario Hunter downfield.
Cornerback Jeremy Lane does an excellent job breaking up a pass downfield intended for Jermaine Kearse. Later, wide receiver Paul Richardson has the play of the day, leaping up and making the grab on what looked like a back-shoulder fade down the right sideline against Sherman. Richardson landed hard but got up and held on to the ball.
And finally, second-year cornerback Tye Smith jumps a vertical route and intercepts Jake Heaps. Once again, this looks to be a deep group of cornerbacks.
That's a wrap. The Seahawks return to practice Thursday.
