Lemuel Jeanpierre returns for the Seahawks

As expected, the Seattle Seahawks have re-signed veteran offensive lineman Lemuel Jeanpierre to come in and compete for the starting spot at center while Max Unger is out with an ankle injury.

The Seahawks also signed defensive tackle Travian Robertson off the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad. To make room for the additions, the Seahawks released offensive tackle Andrew McDonald and safety Steven Terrell.

Jeanpierre (6-foot-3, 300 pounds) spent the previous three seasons with the Seahawks, starting eight games, including three at center last season while Unger was hurt. But Jeanpierre was released at the start of this season on an injury settlement because of a neck injury.

Assuming he’s healthy now, he gives the Seahawks a quality veteran who can step in and play in a system with which he’s familiar.

Jeanpierre, who played college football at South Carolina, will compete with Patrick Lewis for the starting spot at center until Unger returns.

Robertson (6-4, 300) was a seventh-round draft choice by the Falcons in 2012. He was a teammate of Jeanpierre’s at South Carolina.

Robertson played in 12 games over two seasons with Atlanta before being released after training camp this year and signing to the team's practice squad Aug. 31. Robertson gives the Seahawks additional depth on the defensive line with nose tackle Brandon Mebane out for the season with a torn hamstring.
