SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers have been awarded the expected maximum of four compensatory picks for this year’s NFL draft, giving the team 12 draft picks.
The four comp picks, which cannot be traded, come near the end of the fourth (No. 133 overall), fifth (No. 174) and sixth rounds (No.s 211 and 213), respectively. The 49ers' picks come at No. 7, 37, 68, 105, 133, 142, 145, 174, 178, 207, 211 and 213.
A total of 33 comp picks were awarded, and the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots also received four. The Oakland Raiders did not receive any.
For the purposes of the comp selection formula, which figures in net losses, the 49ers lost free agents such as running back Frank Gore (Indianapolis Colts), receiver Michael Crabtree (Raiders), guard Mike Iupati (Arizona Cardinals), cornerbacks Chris Culliver (Washington) and Perrish Cox (Tennessee Titans), and linebacker Dan Skuta (Jacksonville Jaguars) to free agency last year. They added free agents such as receiver Torrey Smith and right tackle/guard Erik Pears.
