1) This one courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau: Jeter has played in 2,423 games in which the Yankees entered the game with a winning record for the season. The only player in major-league history who played in more such games is Pete Rose, who played in 2,669 games in which his team entered with a winning record. The rest of the top five are Willie Mays (2318), Reggie Jackson (2295) and Babe Ruth (2170).
Those 2423 games represent 88.3 percent of the games Jeter has played in his career. Only four players in major-league history played a higher percentage of games in which their team had a winning record (minimum: 2000 games): Yogi Berra (93.1 percent), Manny Ramirez (92.4), Pee Wee Reese (92.2) and Lou Gehrig (90.6).
2) Using some of our pitch-location tools, we have the ability to pinpoint the near-exact location of Evan Meek's pitch against which Jeter got the game-winning hit.
Over the last six seasons, Jeter has 84 hits and a .433 batting average against pitches ending to that location. The hit total ranks fifth-most in the majors in that span (Albert Pujols and Aaron Hill have 90) and the batting average ranks third behind Miguel Cabrera's .455 and Corey Hart's .441.
3) Win Probability Added is a stat that measures context-driven performance, awarding points to a hitter for positive outcomes (reaching base, stealing bases) and takes away points for negative outcomes (making outs). It is charted historically on Baseball-Reference.com. Jeter finished that game against the Orioles with the highest win probability added score in any game, regular season or postseason.
