NEW YORK -- Wilmer Flores' first major league game resulted in an 0-for-4 showing at the plate and an error at third base. Day 2 turned out considerably better.
Flores produced his first two major league hits, including giving the Mets a five-run cushion heading into the ninth with a bases-loaded double against Manny Corpas.
"I think I was a little bit more relaxed and just tried to calm down a little bit and it worked," Flores said after the Mets beat the Colorado Rockies, 5-0, at Citi Field.
Flores noted he was familiar with Corpas.
"I've faced him like two months ago in Triple-A. I kind of knew what he had," Flores said. "He tried to do the same thing he did to me in Triple-A. I was just trying to wait for a good pitch because last night I was swinging at a lot of balls out of the strike zone."
As for producing his first major league hit, which came against Jhoulys Chacin in the second inning, the rookie added: "I couldn't be happier."
