REDS SHORT HOPS
Second baseman Brandon Phillips, who rejected a trade to the Washington Nationals in December, has hit safely in all 32 of his career road games in Queens -- including all 22 since the Mets moved to Citi Field. That’s the longest hitting streak of any player in Citi Field’s history. The honor previously was held by Angel Pagan -- 19 straight games, from Aug. 3 through Sept. 18, 2009, while Pagan played for the Mets. Phillips’ 32-game hitting streak in Queens is the longest by any active major league player against one team on the road.
Jake Arrieta no-hit the Reds on Thursday. Cincinnati last had been no-hit on June 23, 1971, by Philadelphia’s Rick Wise.
Center fielder Billy Hamilton had been sidelined since Wednesday because of a bruised left thumb, but he entered off the bench on Sunday and struck out. Hamilton has only two stolen bases so far this season. He recorded a combined 113 steals in 2014 and ’15.
Joey Votto entered Sunday 4-for-27 in his last eight games. He’s hitting .206/.295/.309.
Adam Duvall has claimed the role as the Reds’ primary left fielder. When the team broke camp, Duvall was slated to platoon with Scott Schebler. Schebler nonetheless has been seeing time in center field during Hamilton’s absence.
The Reds have lost eight straight games against the Mets, including all seven in last year’s season series.
Catcher Devin Mesoraco and shortstop Zack Cozart are back after undergoing season-ending surgeries two weeks apart last June. Mesoraco underwent left-hip surgery and Cozart underwent reconstructive right-knee surgery. Mesoraco is sharing the catching duties with Tucker Barnhart.
The Reds are operating with a closer by committee. J.J. Hoover opened the season as the closer, but he has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on 14 hits and six walks in 7 2/3 innings and has lost the gig. The lone left-hander is the bullpen is Tony Cingrani.
Raisel Iglesias started for Cincinnati on Opening Day despite having only 95 1/3 innings of major league experience. That was the fewest innings by a Reds starter in an opener since Frank Pastore in 1980 (95 innings). Iglesias utilizes different arm slots and seems to invent pitches, which should remind fans of fellow Cuban Orlando Hernandez. Anthony DeSclafani might have been the Opening Day starter over Iglesias, but DeSclafani began the season on the disabled list with a left oblique strain. DeSclafani logged four innings in a rehab start for Double-A Pensacola on Saturday.
Brandon Finnegan, the 17th overall pick in the 2014 draft by the Kansas City Royals, was one of the principal pieces acquired by the Reds in the deal that sent Johnny Cueto to the World Series champs last July.
Jon Moscot has made two starts since being activated from a season-opening DL stint. He had been dealing with a left intercostal strain, which he suffered taking batting practice during spring training.
The Chicago Cubs scored 38 runs against the Reds during their just-completed four-game series.
METS SHORT HOPS
Michael Conforto has hit .324 (11-for-34) with four doubles, two homers and seven RBIs in nine games since moving from sixth to third in the lineup.
Yoenis Cespedes has been unavailable the past two games because of a bruise to his upper right leg, which he initially injured flying into the stands pursuing a foul ball on May 13.
Bartolo Colon’s next win will be the 220nd of his career. That will pass Pedro Martinez for sole possession of second among Dominican-born pitchers. Juan Marichal ranks first with 243 career wins.
Neil Walker has seven homers in April -- matching his career high for a month. He twice reached that figure with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Noah Syndergaard is the first major league pitcher since Roger Clemens in 2005 to allow one run or fewer and strike out at least eight batters in each of his first three starts of a season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
