PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets catching prospect Xorge Carrillo suffered a fractured hand while playing in the championship series in winter-league ball in Mexico, depriving him of a chance to be in big league camp. Carrillo, playing for Mexicali, suffered the injury when a baserunner slid into his hand. It required minor surgery.
Carrillo, 26, already has been given clearance to swing as he returns from the injury, so he should be OK to participate in workouts at the complex once he arrives on Friday.
He hit .240 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs in 325 at-bats with Double-A Binghamton last season.
In addition to Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki, the Mets have non-roster catchers Nevin Ashley, Raywilly Gomez and Johnny Monell in big league camp.
