NEW YORK -- After getting examined by team doctors on Monday, rookie left-hander Steven Matz was advised to refrain from throwing for at least another week.

General manager Sandy Alderson said the strained lat muscle on Matz's left side has improved, but not to the extent that Matz could be cleared for throwing this week.

Matz is 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA through two major league starts. He also has five RBIs.

He landed on the disabled list on July 10.
