Saints' Marques Colston, Benjamin Watson miss practice again

METAIRIE, La. – Quarterback Drew Brees isn’t the only player on the New Orleans Saints in jeopardy of missing Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Receiver Marques Colston, tight end Benjamin Watson, offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Zach Strief, safety Jairus Byrd and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe also missed practice Friday.

Colston (chest) and Watson (knee) were new additions to the injury report this week following Monday night’s loss to the Detroit Lions. The severity of each injury is unknown, and the Saints’ practices have been limited in general this week because it’s a short week between games. So it’s difficult to predict whether either player could miss Sunday’s game.

The Saints promoted receiver Seantavius Jones from their practice squad Thursday, which could be taken as a sign that Colston might not play. But then again, the Saints just released receiver T.J. Graham one day earlier, and Graham has actually played some limited snaps on offense this year. Jones has been relegated to special-teams work when he has been on the active roster.

If Colston doesn’t play, Brandon Coleman could see an increased workload as the No. 3 receiver – something Coleman took advantage of when starter Willie Snead missed a game earlier this month.

If Watson doesn’t play, backup tight ends Josh Hill and Michael Hoomanawanui could both become slightly more involved in the offense.

Armstead (knee), Strief (elbow), Ellerbe (hip) and Byrd (knee) have played through those same injuries in recent weeks despite missing practice time. It’s unclear if any of them further aggravated the injuries on Monday, however.

The Saints will release a status report ontheir injured players following Friday’s practice.
