Saints promote RB Edwin Baker, release TE Tom Crabtree

METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints promoted running back Edwin Baker from the practice squad Saturday to give them a third running back while Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson are sidelined with injuries. To make room, the Saints released tight end Tom Crabtree.

Saints running backs Mark Ingram and Travaris Cadet should get the majority of touches, though Baker would obviously be needed if either of those two is injured.

Baker, 23, was a seventh-round draft choice of the San Diego Chargers in 2012. He never played for the Chargers, but he played in three games with the Cleveland Browns last season, running for 171 yards and two touchdowns and catching eight passes for 57 yards.
