According to the San Antonio Express-News, the San Antonio Spurs are close to completing a deal with free-agent center Joel Anthony. The contract will be for the veteran minimum as that is the only amount the Spurs have available to offer Anthony.

Anthony joined the free-agent market this offseason as the Detroit Pistons waived him July 7. Anthony, 34, spent the last two years with the Pistons and during the 2015-16 season, he averaged just 0.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 19 appearances.
The Spurs currently have 14 players who are locks to make the 2016-17 opening night squad, which leaves Anthony to compete with five other players for the 15th roster spot during training camp and the preseason.
