On draft night, the Washington Wizards landed Kelly Oubre Jr, the 15th overall pick, in a three-team trade with the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks. Oubre was a one-and-done player at Kansas where he averaged 9.3 points and five rebounds per game.
The biggest question about Oubre coming into the NBA was his size. He’s 6-foot-7 with a wingspan of 7-foot-2, but he’s only listed as weighing 200 pounds. Oubre’s physical play will be challenged in training camp against the veterans (Jared Dudley, Otto Porter Jr, Alan Anderson and Martell Webster) on the Wizards’ roster.
J. Michael from CSN Washington reporting on Oubre’s confidence:
- "With Oubre's tendency to speak so highly of himself, his draft status (No. 15 overall pick) and the competition on the Wizards' roster alone (Jared Dudley, Otto Porter, Alan Anderson, Martell Webster) will test him in all sorts of ways. He'll have to carry his own weight in more ways that one. 'I'm not weak. I can bang,' Oubre, 19, said. 'A lot of guys are going to try me. They're going to be pretty surprised how strong I am.'"
