Jose Iglesias is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Friday, but he may not return as the everyday shortstop for the Detroit Tigers.

Erick Aybar has filled in admirably and manager Brad Ausmus will continue to give the 32-year-old at least some at-bats at shortstop.

“Iglesias will get time at short, but if Aybar is playing well, it’s not like we’re going to not play him,” Ausmus told reporters, including Chris McCosky of the Detroit News. “If he’s producing, he’s going to play.”

Aybar is hitting .233/.258/.400 and has played steady defense in eight games with the Tigers since being acquired in a waiver deal with the Atlanta Braves.

Iglesias was hitting just .249 -- a full 26 points below his career average -- when he landed on the DL earlier this month with a strained hamstring.
