When Milwaukee Brewers infielder Elian Herrera was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs on June 1, his future with the team was uncertain.
Herrera played well while in Triple-A and was recalled by the Brewers after the trade deadline opened a few roster spots. Since then, the 30-year-old has hit his stride, posting a .297 batting average since being recalled.
Now, Brewers manager Craig Counsell is giving Herrera everyday at-bats, acknowledging that his versatility is a plus for the team, as Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes.
- “’I think he's getting better as a player, and I said that to him,’ said manager Craig Counsell. ‘Which is a really good thing. He's 30 years old and I feel like he's still getting better. He had a great season in Triple-A. He has done a nice job. His at-bats from both sides of the plate have been good. His defensive versatility, especially on a National League team, has been good. I think the quality of his at-bats has gotten better, which is why he has been in the lineup more regularly.’”
