MINNEAPOLIS -- We're continuing our look at the players taken over the past decade at the spots where the Minnesota Vikings will pick in this year's NFL draft. At pick No. 110 -- where the Vikings will choose in the fourth round -- we find a bruising running back, an emerging safety, an impressive young tight end and a number of players whose careers ended early.
th overall pick
Positions drafted in last 10 years: 3 DB, 2 LB, 1 RB, 1 QB, 1 G, 1 T, 1 DE
New York Giants: Brandon Jacobs, RB, Southern Illinois -- An absolute mountain of a man, the 6-foot-4 Jacobs bulldozed his way to two Super Bowl titles in New York, running for 1,009 yards on 202 carries in 2007 and gaining 571 as part of a tandem backfield with Ahmad Bradshaw in 2011. He scored 60 touchdowns in nine seasons, gaining 5,094 yards in that time, and played his final season with the Giants last year, returning to the team after one year in San Francisco.
Cleveland Browns: Leon Williams, LB, Miami (Fla). -- He was mostly a backup during five NFL seasons, starting a career-high nine games for the Browns in 2007. He spent 2009 in the UFL, returned to the Dallas Cowboys in 2010 and appeared in four games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012.
Oakland Raiders: John Bowie, DB -- The Raiders drafted him with the pick they acquired from the New England Patriots in the Randy Moss trade, and Bowie's career probably doesn't register as much more than a footnote. He was out of Oakland after three seasons, was a training camp cut in Cleveland in 2010 and had a brief stint on the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad in 2011.
Miami Dolphins: Shawn Murphy, T, Utah State -- The son of former Atlanta Braves slugger Dale Murphy, the offensive lineman played just one game in the NFL (for Tampa Bay in 2009). He also spent time with the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
Dallas Cowboys: Victor Butler, LB, Oregon State -- After some initial success as a situational pass-rusher, Butler left Dallas following the 2012 season. He got a two-year deal from the New Orleans Saints, but tore his ACL during a training camp collision with Mark Ingram, and was cut last August, spending time with the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts before getting a reserve/futures contract from the Giants in January. Last week, though, Butler was suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season for a PED violation.
San Diego Chargers: Darrell Stuckey, DB, Kansas -- The lone Pro Bowler in the group of players drafted at No. 110, Stuckey made his first Pro Bowl team in 2014 after excelling on special teams during his first four seasons with the Chargers. He didn't start a game for the Chargers last season, but recovered two fumbles (returning one for a touchdown), broke up two passes and recorded 27 combined tackles.
Dallas Cowboys: David Arkin, G, Missouri State -- He has shuttled between the Cowboys, Dolphins, Seahawks and Colts, and has only been active for three games in four seasons. He finished 2014 on the Colts' active roster after being signed to their practice squad.
San Diego Chargers: Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana-Lafayette -- Through three seasons, he has become a solid contributor, catching 17 passes for a whopping 22.1 yards per catch in 2013, and hauling in 19 passes in 14 games last season. Should the 6-foot-6 Green get to free agency next year, the Vikings -- whose offensive coordinator, Norv Turner, was the Chargers' head coach when they drafted Green -- could be a possible suitor.
New York Giants: Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse -- He's served as a backup to Eli Manning for two seasons, seeing his first game action in 2014, when he completed four of his five passes for 60 yards.
St. Louis Rams: Maurice Alexander, DB, Utah State -- In nine games as a rookie, he played exclusively on special teams, where he made four tackles.
