Grading Mike Tannenbaum's drafts: 2008

Vice president Mike Tannenbaum took over the Miami Dolphins this offseason and will conduct his first NFL draft with the team in approximately two weeks.

With that in mind, we continue our look at Tannenbaum's prior drafts. Next, we take a look at 2008:

  • Round 1 (No. 6): DE Vernon Gholston

  • Round 1 (No. 30): TE Dustin Keller

  • Round 4 (No. 113): CB Dwight Lowery

  • Round 5 (No. 162): QB Erik Ainge

  • Round 6 (No. 171): WR Marcus Henry

  • Round 7 (No. 211): OT Nate Garner

Analysis: After landing stud players in the 2006 (D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold) and 2007 (Darrelle Revis, David Harris) drafts, things began to go downhill for Tannenbaum in terms of drafting players in 2008. The Jets had two first-round picks and a chance to make a major impact. But they whiffed mightily with Gholston, who was one of the biggest draft busts of the past decade, and just did average with Keller, who was a serviceable starter. The rest of the 2008 draft produced little. Garner made a name for himself as a career backup, but he did it with the Dolphins.
