Dolphins host three players, including Michael Crabtree

It was an eventful day for the Miami Dolphins. In addition to making a decision to let go former starting tight end Charles Clay, Miami also hosted three free agents.

The Dolphins met with former first-round wide receiver Michael Crabtree, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and offensive lineman J.D. Walton at the team's training facility Thursday. The biggest name obviously is Crabtree, who has the potential to replace Mike Wallace as Miami’s No. 1 receiver.

Dolphins vice president Mike Tannenbaum was enamored with Crabtree in the draft five years ago when Tannenbaum was the general manager of the New York Jets. This is an opportunity for Tannenbaum to take a second look at the former San Francisco 49ers receiver during free agency.

Miami also is looking at backup quarterback options behind Ryan Tannehill and would prefer a veteran. Jackson is a journeyman backup who most recently played for the Seattle Seahawks. Walton is a center who started all 16 games last season for the New York Giants.
