DENVER -- There are roster changes ahead for the Los Angeles Dodgers as outfielder Carl Crawford and pitcher Louis Coleman are expected back with the team Monday for the start of a seven-game homestand.
The corresponding moves figure to come from the pitching side. The Dodgers are carrying eight relievers at the present time, mostly as a nod the high-scoring tendencies of Coors Field in Denver. Manager Dave Roberts has made it clear that an eight-man bullpen is not in the long-term plans.
The most likely candidates to be sent down Monday are Zach Lee and Luis Avilan, who both arrived with the team for the Colorado series. Adam Liberatore also is a candidate to be sent down.
One thing that could change that arrangement is if the Dodgers think Scott Kazmir might not be ready to make his next start on Wednesday. Kazmir has been receiving treatment for soreness on the thumb side of his left wrist. Kazmir tested the wrist with a game of catch before Sunday’s game.
Roberts and Kazmir both sound confident that the left-hander will be ready to take the ball Wednesday. If that somehow changes, Lee would likely be asked to pitch in Kazmir’s spot.
Crawford has been on the 15-day disabled list with a back issue. He has played in two rehab games with Triple-A Oklahoma City and was scheduled to play one more with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday. Coleman has been on the bereavement list since Thursday after his grandfather passed away.
