Report: Raiders adding Taylor Mays for safety depth

The Oakland Raiders are making their first veteran move of the summer in the secondary and there could be more to come in the next two weeks.

The team is signing well-traveled safety Taylor Mays, according to NFL Media. Mays played at USC when new Oakland defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. was on the USC staff.

Mays was recently cut by Detroit. He was in his first season with the Lions. Mays, who has also played for San Francisco and Cincinnati, has just four starts in the past four years.

He is a depth player. Oakland is looking for depth throughout the secondary. Mays may have to beat out veterans Larry Asante and Brandian Ross to make the team. Oakland is expected to scan the waiver wire in the next two weeks for veteran help at cornerback.
