KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Spencer Ware was probably going to have an offensive role for the Kansas City Chiefs in today's game against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium regardless of Charcandrick West's availability. With the news that West won't play, Ware moves into the featured back role for the Chiefs.

That doesn't have to be bad news for the Chiefs, who played most of the second half of last week's game against the Chargers without West, who has an injured hamstring. Ware took over and led the Chiefs with 96 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.

The problem for the Chiefs offensively will be depth. Knile Davis becomes the backup running back. There are reasons he was demoted twice as the backup, first when he was jumped by West and later by Ware. He has been a liability in the passing game both as a blocker and a receiver and not as effective of a runner as either West or Ware.

The Chiefs will also play without De'Anthony Thomas, who has a concussion. He could have helped the Chiefs out of the backfield, as well as playing slot receiver.

The Chiefs will have tight end Travis Kelce, who injured his ankle in practice on Friday and was listed on the final injury report of the week as questionable for the Bills game.
