INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts are about to start a stretch of four games against teams that will be likely competing for a playoff spots when they take on the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have run off three straight wins after dropping their season opener to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Colts evened up their record at 2-2 after opening the season with losses to Denver and Philadelphia.
Here are three storylines to watch in the game:
Luck’s hot streak: Quarterback Andrew Luck has been basically unstoppable the past two weeks, completing 60 of 80 passes for 763 yards and eight touchdowns. Now he’s about to face the Ravens defense. “They’ve got a bunch of game wreckers over there and we’ve got to make sure that we have a plan to take care of those guys,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. Give Luck time and he's going to make things happen because the statistics don’t back Pagano's words when it comes to Baltimore’s pass defense. The Ravens are 24th in the league in pass defense, giving up 260.3 yards a game.
Brown starting at safety: Sergio Brown is getting just the fourth start of his career at safety in place of the suspended LaRon Landry. There’s every reason to have caution about Brown starting because he was first beaten out by Delano Howell, who is now out for the season with a neck injury, and then Mike Adams, who was signed in June, for the starting spot alongside Landry. Brown wants to prove he’s more than just a special teams player. He’s finally getting that opportunity.
Pressure Flacco: Will this ever stop being a weekly topic for the Colts? They have seven sacks in the past two games, but now they’re facing a quarterback in Joe Flacco who has only been sacked three times this season, including none in the past three games. Linebacker Jerrell Freeman could be back for the Colts after missing the past three games with a hamstring injury. You never know, this could be the game that Bjoern Werner finally gets his first sack of the season. It has to happen at some point.
