INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts safety Mike Adams didn't waste any time -- maybe five minutes, if that -- during his introductory meeting with the media in June to talk about how despite being 33 years old, his body felt like he was still in his 20's
That's why it wasn't surprising Adams wasn't bashful when asked about being able to step in and start alongside LaRon Landry.
"I want (the doubters) to keep coming," Adams said. "Makes me play harder and harder. I've been in the league for years and I've been hearing, 'We're bringing in a safety to take Mike Adams' job.' In my 11 years, I've heard that eight or nine of those years. I continue to step up to the challenge. For people to say Mike Adams can't play next to Landry, I started in the Super Bowl last year. I have stains in the league. Keep it coming, so I can keep playing hard."
Adams went into training camp competing with Delano Howell, Sergio Brown and Colt Anderson for the starting spot. Howell was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury and Adams beat out Brown and Anderson for the job.
And in turn, Adams has been steady through the first four games, recording 15 tackles, five passes defended and two interceptions, with both coming in Sunday's 41-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
"I still have bumps and bruises every now and then, but I still move pretty good," Adams said. "I wouldn't say I found the fountain of youth, but I think I take care of myself pretty well to keep up with these young boys."
