Akeem Dent, Ryan Griffin return to practice Monday

Reading the coverage of the Houston Texans...

The Texans got back Jadeveon Clowney on Monday, but that wasn't all. Inside linebacker Akeem Dent, a starter last season, and tight end Ryan Griffin also returned to practice. Dent was on the physically unable to perform list like Clowney. Griffin had been out for about a week.

John Harris of HoustonTexans.com addresses that and other issues in his 14 observations from Monday's practice. He added these observations: "9. Kourtnei Brown's performance on Saturday night will make him a guy to watch in camp this week. He got the coaches attention and it appeared his confidence shot through the roof. 10. As I walked down to the OL/DL pass rush drills, I heard linebacker coach Mike Vrabel say "great power rep, Kourtnei." Get their attention. Make plays. Get more reps. Easy formula, right?"

Chandler Worthy is trying to prove his worth as a kick and punt returner, writes Dale Robertson of the Houston Chronicle. “It’s up to me,” Worthy said after practice Monday, “to show the coaches that I’m good at it.”

The Chronicle's Aaron Wilson caught up with third-string quarterback Tom Savage on Monday. Savage is typically hard on himself, and this time was no different. "I think obviously it could always be better,” Savage said. "I’m really tough on myself. I watch the film and we won. I keep saying that. That’s the most important thing, but there are a number of things I can grow and improve on."

Mike Meltser of Sports Radio 610 offers his thoughts on the Texans' first preseason game. He includes this one on the Texans' receivers: "I was pleasantly surprised by the wide receiver group. The play [Cecil] Shorts made on his TD is the kind that we haven’t seen a lot out of the ancillary receivers over the last couple of years. Both he and Alan Bonner have the “look” of true slot receivers. Keith Mumphery had a solid 17 yard catch from Mallett, while Jaelen Strong caught a superb back shoulder throw from Tom Savage. Right now, it appears that the Texans are going to keep 6 wideouts: DeAndre Hopkins, Nate Washington, Shorts, Strong, Mumphery, and one of Bonner/Chandler Worthy. It’s not as strong at the top as last year’s group, but I’m intrigued by the potential of the depth here."

Not a Texans story, but you might remember this guy... Matt Schaub's been getting harangued byTerrell Suggs, writes Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun.
