Brett Hundley, Eddie Lacy drop out; James Starks returns for Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- There’s no sign that the Green Bay Packers' latest training-camp injuries are serious, but they have begun to pile up and could affect how coach Mike McCarthy approaches Sunday’s preseason opener.

The Packers planned to play backup quarterback Brett Hundley extensively against the Colts in the Hall of Fame game -- perhaps even as the starter if McCarthy decides not to play Aaron Rodgers -- but that plan was put on hold.

Hundley was unable to practice Wednesday night after he sustained an ankle injury in Monday’s practice.

Before practice, McCarthy said Hundley was questionable for the workout and would not commit to anything in terms of playing time.

“I'm more focused on these next two days in practice,” McCarthy said. “Brett got nicked in practice the other day. ... He's kind of up in the air.”

Undrafted rookie Joe Callahan handled the No. 2 quarterback reps on Wednesday.

Late in Wednesday’s practice, running back Eddie Lacy dropped out. After a brief trip to the team’s indoor facility, Lacy returned to the field for the end of practice and remained in full pads but did not get any more work. No injury information was available following practice.

There was some good news on the injury front. Running back James Starks returned after missing Monday’s session.

There were several other new injuries and players who did not practice: T Bryan Bulaga (knee, rest), LB Jake Ryan (hamstring), T Kyle Murphy (concussion), DT Mike Daniels (excused for personal reasons), TE Mitchell Henry (groin), T Josh James (hamstring), CB Makinton Dorleant (hamstring).

That’s in addition to the five players still on the physically unable to perform list: WR Jordy Nelson (knee), Ty Montgomery (ankle), TE Jared Cook (foot), C Corey Linsley (hamstring), LB Sam Barrington (foot).
