Lions center Travis Swanson posts video of shoulder recovery

Detroit Lions center Travis Swanson injured his shoulder late last season -- something that eventually required surgery in January, according to the NFL Network.

It appears the third-year pro out of Arkansas is getting closer to healthy, at least based on a video he posted Friday on Instagram.

"Shoulder is close to 100%," Swanson wrote on Instagram. "Excited for the season to get here. #OnePride"

The accompanying video showed Swanson back at his alma mater pushing a sled of weights across a football field.

Swanson's starting job this season is in question. The Lions are trying to upgrade their offensive line and Detroit coach Jim Caldwell did not commit to Swanson as his starting center this week at the NFL's league meetings.

Caldwell said he has to earn the job.

"Sure, if he proves it, you know," Caldwell said. "Yeah. He's got to play and he's got to play well and got to play consistent."

The Lions could be on the lookout for a center either in the latter stages of free agency or during the draft. As far as in-house options to push Swanson, Gabe Ikard would be the most likely candidate and Braxston Cave could compete, as well.
