Oklahoma's worst play of the 2011 season

The SoonerNation staff is wrapping up Oklahoma's 10-3 season by answering 10 questions, just like we did during the Sooners' bye week in November. Today:

What was the Sooners' worst play of the season?

Broyles’ knee injury

The Texas Tech, Baylor and Oklahoma State losses were stocked with bad plays. But no play affected OU’s season like Ryan Broyles’ season-ending ACL knee tear during the third quarter against Texas A&M. The offense was never the same. Before Broyles’ injury, the Sooners scored 40 points six times. After, not once.

Jones' first fumble against Oklahoma State

The Sooners were in the game until Landry Jones’ initial fumble, a result of a missed blocking assignment and Jones trying to do too much. OSU defensive end Jamie Blatnick returned the miscue to the OU 1-yard line. OSU punched it in to take a 17-0 lead and the Cowboys cruised to a blowout 44-10 win and Big 12 title.

Jones’ fumble-pass against Oklahoma State

If ever one play was a microcosm for a game, it was Jones’ fumble against the Cowboys. Already down 27-3, Jones went back to pass when the ball slipped out and Richetti Jones scooped it up for a touchdown in a 44-10 defeat most Sooners fans would like to forget.

Jones’ fumble-pass against Oklahoma State

If OU fans were hoping for a second half comeback against Oklahoma State, that hope quickly vanished after the ball simply slipped out of Jones' hand, resulting in an easy fumble recovery and touchdown early in the third quarter. As Bob said above, it summed up the Sooners' performance against the Cowboys.
