HS matchup to watch: Harris vs. Crane

It’s tough to tell when defensive back De’Vante Harris (Mesquite, Texas/Horn) is excited, because Harris has one of the most outgoing personalities of any top recruit.

But this week is a little different for the Oklahoma verbal commit. Not only is Mesquite Horn taking on Denton (Texas) Guyer in an important game Friday, but Harris has a chance to shine on a big stage at Mesquite’s Hanby Stadium.

Through the first three games, Harris hasn’t had many opportunities to show what he can do, as teams have thrown away from him.

Denton Guyer won’t do that this week, because it has its own top recruit in wide receiver Conner Crane.

“I know it’s going to be a challenge, but that’s exactly what I want,” Harris said. “I’m ready to go. This is a game we’ve been looking forward to since the end of last season.”

Crane, 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, has committed to Stanford and had offers from 16 other programs. Harris has broken up four passes and forced a fumble this year.
