Gipson on KU: 'We'll probably lose by 27'

Based on some of Thomas Gipson's recent comments, it does not appear that the Kansas State forward is confident in his team’s ability to end its recent rut in Monday’s home matchup against No. 8 Kansas.

The Wildcats have lost two in a row and eight of their last 10 games. They defeated the Jayhawks in Manhattan, Kansas, last season, but they’re just 6-9 in the Big 12 and 13-15 overall this year.

Gipson did not hold anything back in a conversation with the Topeka Capital-Journal on Saturday.

“That was last year, but this is another year,” Gipson told the publication. “We’ll probably lose by 27, who knows? We just have to come out and play hard.”

At least he thinks there’s a chance. Jeez.

Gipson, a senior who is averaging 11.0 PPG and 4.8 RPG, questioned his team’s resilience following its 69-42 loss at No. 20 Baylor on Saturday. He also admitted that his personal effort has waned, too.

“Nobody is on the same page,” Gipson told the paper. “That’s what happens when you’re not on the same page, you get distant from each other and you don’t play as a team and you get beat by 27.”

The Wildcats lost to Kentucky in the opening round of the NCAA tournament last season. Today, they’re fighting to remain in the NIT conversation after a season filled with drama. Standout Marcus Foster and reserve Melek Harris were both suspended for three games earlier this month.

Bruce Weber’s program was a Big 12 contender a year ago. Now it’s just a big mess.

And Gipson knows it.

“I’m mad,” Gipson told the Topeka Capital-Journal. “I can’t speak for anybody else. It’s my last year and the season is not good right now.”
