What's next for the Bengals as the draft continues

CINCINNATI -- Whether you like their first-round pick or not, the Cincinnati Bengals' draft keeps rolling along.

Friday might be the most important of these three days as three of the Bengals' nine picks get selected in high-value spots.

One night after selecting a first-round pick that many Bengals fans on social media didn't approve of, the team is bracing for a significantly busier couple of hours.

Those upset with Thursday's pick wanted a sexier name, or a star from a position other than offensive tackle who could have a more direct hand in getting the Bengals over the postseason hump this season.

The pick, Texas A&M offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, is still recovering from a December ACL tear. When he finally gets healthy (which he expects will come by training camp), he'll have a long climb up the depth chart behind Andrew Whitworth, Andre Smith and Eric Winston. Ogbuehi probably won't be doing much to help the Bengals get past their playoff roadblock for now.

But are there players in later rounds who can?

That's what the Bengals believe, and will be out to prove, beginning with the 53rd pick.

Here is a look at what's next for the Bengals as the draft continues:

Receiver next to be picked? Because of how loaded this year's draft class is at receiver, it has made sense all offseason that if the Bengals addressed offensive tackle in Round 1 they would spend Round 2 picking up one of the many wideouts. Although Phillip Dorsett is off the board as expected, there are still several good value receivers available. For starters, speedy Kansas State product Tyler Lockett remains in play. As is Ohio State's Devin Smith, but Lockett might be the better fit of the two.

Timed with sub-4.4 40-yard dashes, he's also a shorter in stature, but true possession receiver who can create after the catch. Last season Lockett caught 106 passes for 1,515 and 11 touchdowns. He also returned two punts for touchdowns last season, and was one of two players in the nation to have at least eight punt returns of 20 yards or more.

Watch the tight ends: In three-round mock drafts conducted by ESPN draft insiders Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay, tight ends started coming off the boards in the second round. If that happens, the Bengals might be forced into using one of their two third-round picks on a tight end to ensure they get the one they want. Technically down two tight ends, the Bengals have a serious need at the position. With a comparatively poor tight end class, they might struggle to find two.

Maxx Williams (Minnesota), Clive Walford (Miami of Florida), Jeff Heuerman (Ohio State), Tyler Kroft (Rutgers), Blake Bell (Oklahoma) and E.J. Bibbs (Iowa State) are among possible targets in the third round.

Is linebacker help coming? Don't be surprised if the Bengals address the linebacker position Friday. Much like offensive tackle, their needs at linebacker hinge on creating depth, much like defensive end Will Clarke's third-round selection did last year. UCLA inside linebacker Eric Kendricks probably won't be on the board at 53, but he could be an option. Randy Gregory (Nebraska), once a potential first-rounder, could provide Day 2 value as an outside rusher. So could Paul Dawson (TCU).
