CHICAGO -- Right-handed relief pitcher Zach Putnam was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Chicago White Sox on Saturday with a strained right groin, and right-hander Daniel Webb has returned from the disabled list.
Putnam, who had been feeling discomfort since the end of the most recent West Coast road trip, has a 3.07 ERA this season and 55 strikeouts over 41 innings. His average of 12.07 strikeouts per nine innings is sixth best among American League relievers.
Webb had been on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte, where he made three appearances. He was on the DL since Aug. 5 with a mild right back strain.
Webb was 1-0 with a 2.49 ERA in 17 appearances (21 2/3 innings) with the White Sox this season.
