CHICAGO -- Trayce Thompson will get a chance to show that he is more than just the younger brother of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.
The outfielder was promoted to the Chicago White Sox on Monday, after becoming a Triple-A All-Star earlier this season at Charlotte. He has no major league experience.
Trayce Thompson was batting .260 in his first season at the Triple-A level, collecting 23 doubles, 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. He is a versatile outfielder, having played 94 games in center field, five in right field and four in left this season.
A second-round draft pick in 2009 out of Santa Margarita High School in Orange County, California, Trayce is fourth in the International League with 40 extra-base hits this season and fifth in total bases with 171.
He will take the roster spot of right-hander Scott Carroll, who was optioned back to Charlotte after pitching 4 1/3 innings in Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Not only did Trayce’s brother Klay win an NBA championship with the Warriors this past season, his father Mychal Thompson was the No. 1 overall selection in the 1978 NBA draft and won back-to-back NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1987-88.
