Teravainen back; Versteeg, Nordstrom out

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen returned to the team after sitting out two days with an upper-body injury while Kris Versteeg (flu) and Joakim Nordstrom (upper-body injury) sat out on Wednesday.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Nordstrom is close to returning. Nordstrom did not participate in a scrimmage on Monday and the first preseason game on Tuesday.

Marian Hossa was permitted a rest day on Wednesday and sat out practice.

Teravainen said his upper-body injury is a result of a hit he took from defenseman Cam Barker during a scrimmage Sunday at Notre Dame.

“I had a little bump there,” Teravainen said. “I’m alright now. That’s the key thing. ... It’s just a safe play to take a couple days off. I’m ready now.

Teravainen isn't worried that missing two days will affect his chances of making the NHL roster.

“I think it’s no problem I miss a couple of days,” he said. “There’s a lot of days left here. Just get to show what I got.”

Quenneville said Teravainen will not play in the Blackhawks’ second preseason game on Thursday in Detroit.
