Who needs Rory McIlroy when you have Greg Olsen and Luke Kuechly?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson had nothing on Carolina Panthers tight end and middle linebacker Luke Kuechly on Wednesday.

At least, that is, in the size of their gallery.

The Pro Bowl players drew a crowd for the Wells Fargo Championship pro-am as large -- or larger -- than two of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars.

Of course, they did have home-field advantage.

Olsen, dressed in white pants and a white shirt, was the golfer in a threesome that included Johnson Wagner of the PGA Tour. Kuechly, who had shoulder surgery in February, was his caddie.

And as he answered several times to reporters and fans, rehab from the surgery is going well and he should be ready to go by training camp.

“I’ll put it on the good arm and I’ll be good to go," Kuechly said of Olsen’s bag.

Carolina coach Ron Rivera, who played in the Pro-Am on Monday, joined them in the fairway on the second hole. Center Ryan Kalil got inside the ropes to walk much of the front nine.

Right tackle Mike Remmers and left guard Andrew Norwell were among several teammates who followed in the gallery.

The crowd was so large that Olsen's wife, Kara, was allowed inside the ropes with two of their children in a stroller and the other on foot.

Olsen stopped to get a quick kiss after a nice drive on the third hole.

But the crowd was huge. Not as big as the gallery was in 2007 when Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods were paired, but it larger than most at a Pro-Am, as you can see by these images:

Sometimes Olsen was able to find refuge.

But in the end, he and Kuechly were there to have fun.

"I don't think we're out here doing a whole lot," Kuechly said. "I've got the bag. I'll make sure I've got the towel to make sure I clean his club. I'll try not to put the bag on the green and make sure I'm quiet when he's swinging.

"As long as I do that, I'm good to go."
