The Boston Red Sox announced Wednesday the acquisition of minor league left-handed pitcher Danny Rosenbaum from the Washington Nationals in exchange for catcher Dan Butler.
Rosenbaum, 27, pitched last year at Triple-A Syracuse, serving as the team’s opening day starter. After four starts, Rosenbaum tore his ulnar collateral ligament and underwent Tommy John surgery that ended his season in May.
A groundball pitcher, Rosenbaum is 34-36 with a 3.12 ERA in six minor league seasons.
Butler, designated for assignment last week following the signing of reliever Craig Breslow, made his major league debut with the Red Sox in August last season. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2009, Butler’s ascent through the organization was among the teams brighter storylines last year.
He hit .211 with two RBIs in 19 major league at-bats and owns a .256/.349/.416 slash line over six minor league seasons.
